For Immediate release
Newport Beach, California
On May 5, 2012 a unique event will launch in Newport Harbor to raise awareness for our fight against Breast Cancer. The Standup for the Cure is the brainchild of Judie Vivian, a Breast Cancer Survivor and advocate for the Orange County Chapter of the Susan G Komen Foundation. “Imagine a flotilla of paddlers on Standup Paddleboards wearing pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. The Standup for the Cure will consist of Clinics, Demos, Live Music, Banquet, Silent Auction and Raffle. Standup Paddling is the fastest growing watersport of our time and direct health benefits alone make this sport the perfect avenue for raising awareness for the great work that the Komen Foundation does to fight Breast Cancer” says Vivian about the planned upscale Standup Paddleboard (SUP) event.
Riviera Paddlesurf (Presenting Sponsor), with supporting Sponsors Maui Jim, Kona Brewing Company, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Victory KoreDry are excited to share the world of Standup Paddling with families and friends who want to show their support for the work being done to save lives from this horrible disease. “It’s going to be a celebration of our Lifestyle, where families, friends and survivors can raise money to help save lives by doing something they love.” Commented Event Director Dan Van Dyck, whose mother is a 38 year Breast Cancer Survivor.
The Standup for the Cure will take place on May 05, 2012 at the Newport Dunes Facility in Newport Beach California. This venue is visible from Coast Highway and the paddling route will wind its’ way through the Scenic Harbor. “We chose this location for the inaugural Standup for the Cure because of the visual impact we can make. Nothing draws your attention like hundreds of paddlers wearing pink.” Says Mike Muir from Riviera Paddlesurf, Presenting Sponsor for the event, who came on board because of a personal experience with Breast Cancer.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the day’s events. The organizers have assembled an incredible expo featuring booths that represent all aspects of the active SUP lifestyle from Board manufacturers to clothing and from paddles to nutrition. Whether you’re a novice or an expert, there will be something for you. Maui Jim’s own Zane Schweitzer will lead our team of instructors. Riviera Paddlesurf will be joined by the likes of Rogue SUP , Yolo Board and SUP Love who will supply loaner boards and demos for new paddlers. Lunch will be provided by Ruth’s Chris Steak House included with the entry fee, also included with your entry fee is a custom Pink Permawik Jersey from Victory KoreDry. A Happy Hour with Live Music presented by Kona Brewing Company will wrap up the day.

The Riviera 12'6" Voyager is finally here. The Voyager 12'6" is a perfect board for first time paddlers, and the most stable board we make. The voyager is designed for someone who wants to paddle flatwater or mild open ocean conditions. It has all the features of a raceboard but has been toned down making it more stable and user friendly. It is equipped with 14 leash plugs on the nose and tail to tie down all your gear. The Displacement hull makes this board cut through the water efficiently, making long paddles much easier than a standard surfboard shape cruiser.

A few days ago we were updating our Team Bio's and we couldn't help but be blown away by the sheer volume of races that Thomas Maximus raced last year. He made it to 34 races, getting 23 1st place finishes, breaking 3 course record times. We always wondered if he had a real job... He says he's a realtor, and maybe he is, but he is definitely dedicated to Stand Up Paddle Racing.
Check out the entire Riviera Team Here...

Occasionally we get photos and videos from people riding our boards. We try to share as many of them as we can on our blog and facebook etc. The below video was sent to us last week from James surfing his Riviera 10'6". Knee high surf has never looked so good.
If you have any good shots of you and your friends stand up paddling, send them to us at info@rivierapaddlesurf.com or share them on our facebook Page HERE.
