The SUP Awards has been a great event for the past 2 years, bringing everyone in the SUP community together to celebrate our sport of Stand Up Paddling, and congratulate key people helping the sport grow. SUP the Mag has posted all the acceptance speeches from the night on their website HERE.
We wanted to share these two speeches.
1st is the award for top Philanthropic effort. Stand Up For the Cure got the award and we were very proud to be a part of that great event this year and can't wait till next year. Don't miss it.The next award that we wanted to share was the 2012 SUP Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award given to Gerry Lopez. We couldn't be happier for Gerry, and it was good to hear from our friend and Shaper Ron House, tell stories of how they both got into SUP.

The Battle of the Paddle this year was an awesome event. It is great to see the sport continue to grow in the amount of people paddling, and the amount of younger paddlers dominating the elite class as well as a lot of brave groms participating in the kids race.
As we gather all our photos and videos from the event(may take a day or two), Here is a collection of Instagram photos and captions from @rivierapaddlesurf and our friends.
Raceboards get prepared for the weekend - Swell is on the way, everyones amped.
SUP awards thursday Night, it was great to get the whole SUP community together -- Friday, the Riviera Chase Boat is getting into position.
Raceday... The Elite race was stacked -- 404 Team Rider/Owner Danny Ching takes the win -- Kona Brewing Company sponsors our party on Sunday night. They supplied us with more Longboard Lager than we've ever seen. 1,000 beers. We better get started.
The sun rises on sunday, and it couldn't have been a nicer day 75* weather, not a bit of wind, and 3-4 ft surf. The distance race is on, and Rob Rojas wins the unlimited class, and Danny Ching takes the win in the 14' elite class.
The kids race starts, and the whole field gets caught inside by a set. Boards and children were flying in all directions. All of them made it to the finish safely and had a good time competing.
Sunday night we hosted a BOP Party. Sushi and fish tacos prepared by Keoni, and Live Music by Rubber Bean.
Stay tuned for more news from the event.

THE SPACE COAST PADDLE BLAST- EARLY RESULTS
Cocoa Beach, Florida
Rough weather on the day of the race turned what could have been a routine race into a challenging competition among the truly elite competitors of the sport.
The wind on the 16th blew 15-20 mph out of the northeast , with gusts up to 25 mph, creating 4-6 ft wind swell that clashed with an equally large 9 second ground swell. Due to the conditions the 2 lap race course was shortened from 8.5 to 6.8 miles. The 29 paddlers that rose up to the challenge were rewarded with a memorable battle that tested their abilities to the limit.

"It was great day for SUP today at the Seaside Slide 7 Mile Paddleboard/SUP race which has been notorious in past years for it's gnarly Shore-break Surf & inclement weather which has claimed a few boards in the past!
Today we were blessed with sunny warm conditions with small surf across SoCal....although the race site at Reefside in Solana beach still managed to produce a few head high waves breaking top to bottom to make the departure and return a bit more exciting...Ugh!
Despite a little pounding through the rinse cycle paddling out (set on frigid cold water temp) to the Race start...the conditions were favorable for Stand Up Paddling with Northerly current paddling up the Coast toward Moonlight Beach and a nice little breeze to push us when we paddled bach South to the Finish Line....all the way chasing down Chuck Glenn who'd been leading most of the race....lucky for me we had an exciting sprint to the finish allowing me to take the Overall win and capturing the previous Course Record set by a Prone Paddler in 2004 with a time of 1hr 4 min. 16 seconds with a new Overall Course Record Time of 1 hr. 1min 29 seconds.
I may of had a slight advantage with the OM Trucker Hat, OnIt Pro, Xtrak Pad & Riviera Paddle! haha"

The mongoose cup is all about having fun and being safe on the water. The highlight of the day was the Team SUP relay race. The team's were chosen by random which evened the field by placing paddlers of all skill levels together on a team. If you are thinking about entering your first SUP race, this is a great one to try out. If you're lucky you will get teamed up with an experienced paddler and have a chance to learn alot about stroke technique, and racing strategy.
Here are some photos from the event... Enjoy!

On May 5, 2012 a unique event will launch in Newport Harbor to raise awareness for our fight against Breast Cancer. The Standup for the Cure is the brainchild of Judie Vivian, a Breast Cancer Survivor and advocate for the Orange County Chapter of the Susan G Komen Foundation. “Imagine a flotilla of paddlers on Standup Paddleboards wearing pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. The Standup for the Cure will consist of Clinics, Demos, Live Music, Banquet, Silent Auction and Raffle. Standup Paddling is the fastest growing watersport of our time and direct health benefits alone make this sport the perfect avenue for raising awareness for the great work that the Komen Foundation does to fight Breast Cancer” says Vivian about the planned upscale Standup Paddleboard (SUP) event.
Riviera Paddlesurf (Presenting Sponsor), with supporting Sponsors Maui Jim, Kona Brewing Company, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Victory KoreDry are excited to share the world of Standup Paddling with families and friends who want to show their support for the work being done to save lives from this horrible disease. “It’s going to be a celebration of our Lifestyle, where families, friends and survivors can raise money to help save lives by doing something they love.” Commented Event Director Dan Van Dyck, whose mother is a 38 year Breast Cancer Survivor.
The Standup for the Cure will take place on May 05, 2012 at the Newport Dunes Facility in Newport Beach California. This venue is visible from Coast Highway and the paddling route will wind its’ way through the Scenic Harbor. “We chose this location for the inaugural Standup for the Cure because of the visual impact we can make. Nothing draws your attention like hundreds of paddlers wearing pink.” Says Mike Muir from Riviera Paddlesurf, Presenting Sponsor for the event, who came on board because of a personal experience with Breast Cancer.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the day’s events. The organizers have assembled an incredible expo featuring booths that represent all aspects of the active SUP lifestyle from Board manufacturers to clothing and from paddles to nutrition. Whether you’re a novice or an expert, there will be something for you. Maui Jim’s own Zane Schweitzer will lead our team of instructors. Riviera Paddlesurf will be joined by the likes of Rogue SUP , Yolo Board and SUP Love who will supply loaner boards and demos for new paddlers. Lunch will be provided by Ruth’s Chris Steak House included with the entry fee, also included with your entry fee is a custom Pink Permawik Jersey from Victory KoreDry. A Happy Hour with Live Music presented by Kona Brewing Company will wrap up the day.
