There was no shortage of events this weekend here in So Cal. So Many that we'll have to break all the news in small portions...
So Here it goes...
Friday as usual is pretty busy at Riviera Headuarters... Team riders are stopping by to get geared up for the weekends events. Brennan Rose came by to grab a new RP-14' for the Tahoe 22Miler Race on Sunday, and Rob Rojas came by to retro fit his BUMP Paddles with the Choke Hold Paddle Handle, and Shae was here picking up her 12'6" for the Surf Race on Saturday. Now, we patiently wait for Saturday.
As saturday started for us at the Camp SUP Event at Doheny Beach, we kept hearing news of the racing going on at Camp Pendleton... "Nick Scheel won it!"
Nick is an up and coming racer from here in San Clemente, and at 15 yrs old he is already giving the older paddlers a run for their money, and this weekend taking their money... $500 to be exact placing 1st on his RP-12'6" over Sean Pangelian, and Byron Kurt. Way to go Nick!
Another Grom Paddler to take the win over the adults was Jade Howson, taking 1st in her division, and Jamie Donelly taking 3rd in the womens Elite 12'6" on her RP-12'6" Raceboard.
Mean while at Camp SUP the event is going great, small waves make for a perfect demo day. We had a bunch of new paddlers on the Coastal Cruiser, Riviera 10'6", and 9'2" NUGG... And the Groms are loving the 8' NUGGET, and the 7' SCOUT. It's awesome to see the kids carrying their own boards and paddling right out through the surf.
Next, we hear Shae Foudy took second Place in the SURF Race! Shae has been progressing lately, and her hardwork, and surf experience payed off!
Sunday Begins with the US SUP Tour Surf Event at Huntington Beach Pier. We had a few paddlers in the event on Riviera SUP's... Anthony Maltese, Nick Ventresca, Taylor Rambo, and Brandon Rambo. The boys did well with Brandon Rambo getting a 3rd place in the Semi Finals!
The girls did even better with Riviera Team Rider Sophia Barlow taking her 3rd consecutive win at the US SUP Tour! Way to go Sophia!!!! And Congrats to Max Flemming for taking 2nd in the open Men's SUP Cross Race.
Next we hear news of the 22 Mile Race across Lake Tahoe ... Not suprisingly, Rob is in the lead on the fastest board on the planet, the RP-19'7"-Unlimited Raceboard... Brennan Rose racing his RP-14' is in the lead pack of 3 paddlers with Jay Wild, and Ben Sarrazin.
The race goes on and Rob takes the win on his unlimited, and Brennan Rose finishes 3rd in the 14' Class. Brennan and Rob both take the series victory becoming $2000 richer! That should cover gas for their 5 trips to Tahoe this summer... well most of it at least.

What got you into the SUP business? Surf Ontario started as a surf school teaching surfing on the great lakes, followed by SUPing on the great lakes as it came into vogue. Realizing there was demand from our students for boards we opened up the Surf Ontario surf shop to provide our customers with the complete package of lessons and product.
What is your most memorable moment in SUP? My most memorable moment in SUPing would be paddling across Lake Ontario with my business partner Grant Kennedy. It was a 42 mile paddle we completed in one day to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis.
Where do you like to paddle? I like to paddle at Scarborough Bluffs or around the Toronto Island.
What is your favorite local restaurant for an after paddle meal? When I'm hungry after paddling you can't beat Dante's up the road from my house.
What is your favorite local SUP event? My favourite local sup event (sorry for the bias) would have to be the SUP4MS as it's a big social paddle and a lot of fun. This year we expect 100 paddlers to take part in the charity event.
Your Board is Ready!... A phrase that everyone likes to hear, and this week, we have been saying it alot. The US Made Raceboards for the BOP have been coming out of the glass shop all week, and our team, and stoked customers have been stopping in to touch and feel their new boards.
Why go custom? With our custom boards, we can make subtle changes to our race or surf models to give you that edge in performance. Not to mention we can make them extremely light... All the carbon raceboards for the BOP have been around 16.2-18Lbs! Brian Haag's 12'6" pictured above was 16.2Lbs, and the lightest 12'6" we've ever made.
